In conjunction with researchers, clinicians, and healthcare professionals, the NLPPP carries out applied health research that is relevant to perinatal health policy decision making. The research also provides information to the public. If you are interested in finding more about what projects we are working on or want to discuss the possibility of working on a future research project related to perinatal health, feel free to contact us.

The NLPPP presently has eight fiscal years of data within the Perinatal Database (2001/02 to 2008/09) with information (down to diagnosis and intervention level) on mothers and babies born or transferred to the Children's and Women's Health Program. As of January 2010, data collection begun from the facilities of Western Health (Corner Brook, Stephenville and Port Aux Basques) adding the total provincial capture to 85%. The remaining regions of Eastern Health (ie, Carbonear, Burin and Clarenville) have been capturing delivery/newborn information since October 2007. In addition to the data being collected from Labrador (since January 2005), collection is also being done from the Grenfell portion (St. Anthony) of the Labrador-Grenfell Health Authority.  Our goal is to capture the perinatal information from Central Health within the next few years.  We also have over 10 years of provincial data from the Follow-Up Clinic Database with information on outcomes like vision or hearing impairment, cerebral palsy, and developmental delay.
